Travel and Venue Information
Notice that parking is free on weekends. This is ONLY if you park in Lot 1, which, from Stamp, is past the Cole Student Activities Building. Notice that in that parking lot, not everything is part of Lot 1, so make sure you park somewhere that is part of Lot 1 if you do not want to get ticketed. The very colorful green area at the top is where you want to be: http://www.transportation.umd.edu/parking/maps/map_color.pdf
NON-NUMBERED parking spots in the Regents Drive Garage(located to the right of the M roundabout) are free on weekends. Please note that NUMBERED spaces are still metered. YOU WILL RECEIVE A $75 FINE FOR PARKING IN A NUMBERED SPOT AND NOT PAYING.
NOTE: The competition is being held in the Grand Ballroom, Room 1206, which is on the first floor, number 43 on this map: http://thestamp.umd.edu/Portals/0/Images/About/map_firstfloor.jpg
If you are a first time competitor, please read this section carefully. If you are a returning competitor, please skip to the next section.
There are multiple things a first-timer must know before competing. All newcomers must be familiar with the WCA Regulations before competing. There is a video here for the basic overview of the rules.
In addition, please read this document before coming to the competition. Huge thanks to Olivér Perge and Niki Placskó for the document!
Please read this section carefully. We will have a change in organization for Slow N Steady Summer 2017 modeled off of Hungarian competitions in Europe. When you arrive, you will receive a lanyard with personalized information detailing your events and what group you will be competing in for each event. In addition, you will also have staff assignments on your lanyard. Every competitor is expected to help out this competition. The card will look somewhat like the following:
* S - scrambling
* R - running
* J - judging
Please note that everyone is expected to help only during the events they are registered for, and everyone need only help for one group per event. If you do not arrive to help during your scheduled event, and there are not enough staff members, we reserve the right to disqualify you from competing.
If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).
The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
